Scherrie Payne, the little lady with the big voice, was chosen to replace Jean Terrell in the Supremes in 1973. She immediately became a fan favorite as they toured around the world. Scherrie recorded three albums with the group "THE SUPREMES [yielding hits "HE'S MY MAN" and "WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?"], HIGH ENERGY ["LET MY HEART DO THE WALKING"], and MARY SCHERRIE AND SUSAYE ["YOU'RE MY DRIVING WHEEL," "LET YOURSELF GO," "LOVE I NEVER KNEW YOU COULD FEEL SO GOOD"].
After leaving Motown, she began her solo career, recording a series of dance single hits with producer Rick Gianatos for his ALTAIR RECORDS label, including "I'M NOT IN LOVE," and "ONE NIGHT ONLY."
Scherrie regrouped with Jean Terrell and Lynda Lawrence as FLOS [Former Ladies of the Supremes], renewing the silky sound of the premier Motown girl group during Jean Terrell's tenure, recording for Ian Levine's MOTOR CITY RECORDS. With co-producer Rick Gianatos, they recorded a series of great singles, both original and covers, including fantastic new renditions of "STONED LOVE" and "NATHAN JONES," as well as original tracks "HIT AND MISS" [co-written by Scherrie], and a very retro 60's "CRAZY BOUT THE GUY." Jean Terrell left FLOS and Scherrie and Lynda soldiered on, joining Diana Ross and the Supremes on the "Return To Love" tour. Diana Ross complimented Scherrie and Lynda on the Oprah show, saying that they are authentically keeping the legend alive.
Scherrie and Lynda, with Freddie Poole, recorded a new single with Rick for his Nu & Improved imprint, "SISTERS UNITED," which is available for sale on CD Baby as well as downloads, and also were starred in Rick's UK release, the DREAMGIRLS DANCE PROJECT. She and Rick cut more tracks and Scherrie wrote more original material for herself and others, including Pattie Brooks and now Kim Yarbrough [from THE VOICE], and then came the highly anticipated release of LET YOURSELF GO: THE FINAL SESSIONS by The Supremes, the follow-up to the wonderful THIS IS THE STORY, which featured all of the material during Jean's tenure with the group.
In Rick Gianatos's days as a DJ, along with "I'M GONNA LET MY HEART DO THE WALKING," his most favorite Supreme song with Scherrie was "LET YOURSELF GO." The release of these sessions with Scherrie inspired him to do an updated take on it, and the result is this CD Single. The Supremely soulful vocals of this fabulous lady are unleashed with an amazing package of mixes, featuring work by the Magik Boys, Rinaldo Montezz, Phillip Hall aka Klykthemixer, and producer Rick Gianatos.
It's time to hang loose, kick off your shoes, and stay a while. "LET YOURSELF GO"!
