Beautiful Bend

Russian born Boris Midney's 1978 epoch album, Make That Feeling Come Again! under the studio name Beautiful Bend, was a Disco tour de force. He brought it all to life at his Eras recording studio in New York City which boasted 48 tracks. Layer upon layer of sounds are built up to create this symphonic Disco masterpiece that manages to blend his classical and jazz background with the thumping sounds of Disco and a little funky guitar thrown in for good measure. If you enjoy the music of Alec R. Costandinos, Voyage or other groups like USA European Connection then Beautiful Bend is a must! An edited 12 inch single was released on TK Records of the above tracks, but it is the complete album shown here that needs to be heard to appreciate the scope of Boris Midney's work.

All songs composed and arranged by Boris Midney

Pioneering dance music producer/arranger Boris Midney was among the principal architects of the Eurodisco sound. One of the first to exploit the full potential of 48-track recording, his trademark blend of strings, horn and percussion created a sound as deep and lush as any heard during the disco era. Born in Russia, Midney was a classically-trained composer who started out writing film scores; turning to disco, however, he discovered his true calling. Working under a number of guises he produced an enormously prolific body of work from his New York City studio ERAS. He first came to American prominence with USA-European Connection. The concept was simple, take lush female vocals and arrangements (done USA style) and place them over swirling strings, and incessant synthesized beats (Euro style) and you have a hit. The four track debut album stormed the club charts and peaked at #-1. "Love's Coming/Baby Love" and "Come Into My Heart/Good Loving" were in a class by themselves.......chic disco! The first album, "Come Into My Heart," released in 1978 was recorded in Philadelphia at ALPHA Recording studios. Midney used Leza Holmes, Renne Johnson and Sharon Williams for the vocals and Joan Cordas and Bruce Weeden to assist in the musician department. By the time of the release of 1979's "USA-European Connection" he had moved into his 48-track ERAS studio in New York. Vocal duties were handle in-house by Kevin Owens and Chequita Jackson, singers he used on many of his other productions. Musicians included: Peter Martin, Tom Miller, Francisco Centeno and Bob DePasquale's String Group. Once again the formula was the same, four tracks, "I'd Like To Get CLoser," "Do Me Good," "Join The Dance" and "There's A Way Into My Heart," peaking at #-1. Having exhausted this concept, and far too busy churning out concept album after concept album, Midney chose not to release another under this banner. Luckily for fans both albums were re-issued in 1999 on compact disc.

"Superstar" Bob McGilpin (1978)

Bob McGilpin's first release was 1978's "Superstar." The album was released promotionally on colored (grey) vinyl, as were all Butterfly Records albums. The title track was the only 12" single released from the album and it became a Top Ten hit for him. The song, "Superstar" was so popular that it was remixed and re-released a second time during it's peak.

His second album was 1979's "Get Up." The A-side was "Sexy Thing" but the hit, at least in Chicago, was the B-side "Get Loose."

In 1980, following the demise of Butterfly Records, he moved to Casablanca Records where he had one release the self-titled "Bob McGilpin." Only one 12" was released, "Down To The Wire" backed with "Chain Reaction."

His last known musical appearance of Bob was on March 5, 1998. He was part of the entertainment at "Higher Ground" in Hollywood on their "Western Beat" night.

He is currently working as a Producer, Songwriter, Engineer and Designer/Builder of MVAmps.

Donna Summer-Spring Affair 1976

Look At How Sexy Ms Pattie Brooks Is Middle Back Up Singer.

"Spring Affair" is a song by Donna Summer from her 1976 album Four Seasons of Love. The song (which represents the "spring" phase of the concept album) tells of the beginning of a new relationship. At the time of its release, Summer had already started to make her name as the leading female disco singer by releasing frankly sexual songs that were considerable in length. In its entirety "Spring Affair" lasted over eight minutes, though it was edited down for its release as a single.

"You're So Beautiful" is a song recorded by Donna Summer in 2003.

Despite the fact that the song wasn't given a commercial release as a single, but included as one of three new tracks on Universal's greatest hits package The Journey: The Very Best of Donna Summer and only released as a 12" promo single to club DJs, "You're So Beautiful" became a dance hit, reaching #5 on the US Club Play Chart and #16 on Dance Airplay.

In 2005 the track was included on a second Universal compilation, Gold.
