Foxy - Tena's Song 1978
Jazzy Disco from Foxy!
The Latin dance and disco band Foxy was founded in Miami, Florida in the year 1976. The band’s line up consisted of Cuban vocalist and guitarist Ish “Angel” Ledesma, percussionist Richie Puente, keyboardist Charlie Marciano, bassist Arnold Pasiero, and drummer Joe Galdo. Puente, who passed away in the year 2004 at the age of 51, was the son of the bandleader Tito Puente.
The band is perhaps best remembered for their 1978 hit “Get Off.” “Get Off” made it to Number Nine on the Billboard Hot 100 charts and made it to Number One on the Soul charts, where it remained for a period of two weeks. “Get Off” was the band’s only single from the album of the same name, which had been released in the same year.
In the year 1979, the band released their follow up album entitled Hot Numbers. This album’s single, “Hot Number,” did not do quite as well as their previous. It only made it to Number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 Charts, squeezing in at Number Four in the Soul Charts. The band later broke up. Ish “Angel” Ledesma, the group’s charismatic front man, would go on to form the New Wave pop band Oxo, who scored a Top Ten hit with “Whirly Girl,” in 1983, and later Company B in the late 1980s. Company B featured Ledesma’s wife Lori L. and his sister in law, Lezlee (Livrano.)
The albums of Foxy include Foxy, Get Off, Hot Numbers, Party Boys, and Live.
